PERFORMING MUSIC GROUPS

Students may choose to audition for and may be selected to participate in Griffin Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chorale, and Jazz Band.

MARLBORO GRIFFIN ORCHESTRA GRADES 6-8 - ­This ensemble is for string orchestra students from both Marlboro Middle School and Memorial Middle School in grades 6­-8 who have advanced ability. Acceptance is through audition only; auditions will take place in June with reauditions for eligible 6th graders in September. Rehearsals will be after school on Tuesdays from 2:30-­4:00 pm from October through May. Students are bused to Memorial Middle School and must be picked up from that school; there is no return bus. Audition requirements include scales, a prepared solo selection and sight reading. Accepted students must attend all rehearsals, any conflicts must be discussed with Mrs. Dokus in advance. There is a participation fee, and cost for the performance outfit for accepted students. Griffin Orchestra will be participating in an overnight competition trip.

WIND ENSEMBLE ­GRADES 7 AND 8 - Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group selected from the general band population. Only those students who are members in good standing are eligible to audition. Wind Ensemble is open to students in grades 7 and 8 only. Auditions are held in June for the following school year. Rehearsals are scheduled, during the school day, for 2 of the 6 day Related Arts Cycle. Members must also be enrolled in their regular grade level band. The Wind Ensemble rehearses after school every Wednesday from 2:30-4:00.  The Wind Ensemble performs at the winter and spring concerts, various community events and adjudications during the school year. Students receive a letter grade on their report card every marking period.

CHORALE GRADES 7 AND 8 - Chorale is an auditioned group of 7th and 8th grade singers.  All students wishing to audition for Chorale must be enrolled in their grade level Chorus.  Chorale rehearsals will take place during the school day as a scheduled class and after school one day a week.  After school rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4pm.  Chorale performs at the Advanced Ensembles Winter and Spring Concerts, various community events, and participates in adjudications during the school year.
