7th Grade ELA Overview

Throughout the year, we read an array of differentiated texts including novels, short stories, informational texts, academic essays, poems, and meaningful quotes. Through our discussions and activities, students will interpret and connect the skills to create their own understanding. Additionally, students will develop narrative, argumentative, informative, and research-based pieces of work following a clear writing process. This year, there is a strong focus on students’ ability to support, analyze, and synthesize information through text-based writing and the use of research.

This year, students will:
  • engage in novels through whole class, independent, and book club settings
  • improve nonfiction reading skills, including analysis and synthesis
  • develop vocabulary skills and connections through root words, prefixes, and suffixes
  • focus on narrative, informative, argumentative, and research-based writing
  • implement skillful compositional risks in writing
  • review and apply new grammar strategies to writing
  • practice skills using Achieve 3000 and other digital tools
  • become innovators and creators in their own learning
