Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at MMS. I am Mrs. Starr and I will be your child’s 7th grade Language Arts Teacher. I am excited to return for what will surely be a great year in the 7th grade. It is my pleasure to have your child in my class, and I look forward to working closely with you to ensure a positive experience in Language Arts.

Prior to becoming a teacher I graduated Rutgers University with both my undergraduate in English and graduate degree in K-8 instruction with a specialization in English and Special Education. In 2017, I attended Montclair and received a second graduate degree in Educational Leadership. Currently I am enrolled at Monmouth University for Mental Health Counseling. As a child I was a very unmotivated student until I met a high school teacher who instilled in me the passion for both reading and writing. To this day, I remain an avid reader. I find the best way to express myself is via written form. I love presenting speeches and engaging in discussions. It is my goal to share my love of literature and the art of writing with my students, in the hopes that throughout the school year we will inspire and encourage each other, all while experiencing the joy of the English language.

I began teaching at the middle school level in 2012. I have taught from kindergarten all the way up through high school. Most of my experience has been in middle school ELA.

I invite you to check our Google Classroom each day for announcements and assignments. Additionally, I update grades on the parent portal frequently, so feel free to check in at any time. You can help your child by making sure all reading and homework assignments are completed, and time is put aside for studying.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point, please contact me via e-mail. I look forward to meeting and speaking with each of you to ensure your child's experience in Language Arts is a successful one. With your involvement and support, we can work diligently to help your child reach his or her personal and academic goals and make this year of middle school a positive one.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Starr
